We are on a mission to save 1 million lives with blood cells

The Blood Cells Rescue Initiative (BCRI) is a non-profit organization committed to ensuring the availability and accessibility of safe blood for everyone who needs it, when they need it most. Founded in response to Nigeria’s growing blood shortage crisis, BCRI stands as a beacon of hope — bridging the gap between life and loss, between despair and recovery.

Every year, thousands of Nigerians — especially women, children, accident victims, and sickle cell patients — lose their lives due to the unavailability of safe blood. Our mission is simple yet urgent: to make safe blood available and accessible to all in a cost-effective and timely manner.

We are enabling the availability of blood and blood products across all areas where it is needed through:

🤝 Partnerships with hospitals, schools, and NGOs
💡 Digital innovation connecting donors, hospitals, and blood banks
🙌 A growing network of volunteers and advocates driving the movement for a safer

Our Approach

We combine education, advocacy, and collaboration to  promote voluntary donation, and build a sustainable culture of compassion and saving lives every day.

Awareness

We raise public consciousness on the importance of voluntary blood donation, safe transfusion practices, and the realities of Nigeria’s blood supply crisis

Advocacy

Our advocacy efforts aim to influence policies, institutional practices, and public attitudes toward blood donation and transfusion safety.

Education

We provides accurate educational information to medical professionals, students, and the general public on blood donation and transfusion safety.

Our Impact

Saving Lives, One Drop at a Time

BCRI was born out of the recognition that the lack of safe and sufficient blood supply is one of Nigeria’s most preventable public health challenges. Since our inception, we have worked passionately to raise awareness, promote voluntary blood donation, and build partnerships that strengthen the nation’s blood transfusion ecosystem.

Through community outreach, advocacy campaigns, and collaborations with hospitals, schools, and health organizations, we’re turning awareness into action — and donors into life-savers.

Since our founding, BCRI has organized multiple blood drives, media campaigns, and educational programs, reaching thousands of people across Nigeria. Each initiative brings us closer to a future where no life is lost due to lack of blood.

Encouraging voluntary, non-remunerated donors.
Training healthcare providers on blood safety standards.
Collaborating with hospitals, schools, NGOs, and private organizations.
Using digital platforms to engage youth and streamline donor coordination.
Awareness Campaigns
We lead nationwide campaigns to educate communities about the importance of voluntary blood donation. Through media outreach, community events, and digital engagement, we inspire a culture of giving and dispel myths surrounding blood donation.
Blood Drives
Our blood drives bring donors, healthcare teams, and volunteers together to save lives. Organized in schools, markets, churches, and workplaces, these drives ensure a steady supply of safe blood for hospitals and patients in need.
Donor Recruitment
We actively recruit and retain voluntary, non-remunerated donors through personalized engagement and community programs. Every new donor represents a renewed chance at life for patients who depend on timely transfusions.
Blood Safety education
We promote best practices in blood collection, screening, and transfusion through training and public education. By empowering healthcare professionals and raising safety standards, we ensure that every unit of blood is truly safe.
Student & youth engagement
Through the Blood Rescue Club, we empower young people to become advocates and lifelong donors. By nurturing leadership, awareness, and compassion among students, we’re building the next generation of life-savers.
Strategic Partnerships
We collaborate with hospitals, NGOs, government agencies, and corporate organizations to strengthen Nigeria’s blood supply system. These partnerships amplify our reach, impact, and capacity to save more lives across the nation.
